The breaks in the straight part of femur Bone are referred to as Femoral Shaft Fractures. This bone requires high energy collision to be fractured. In this V-Learning™ lecture on Femoral Shaft Fractures emphasis is given on isolated femoral shaft fracture, complex injuries, and pathological fractures such as Paget’s disease. Along with this, supracondylar fractures of femur and fracture-separation of distal femoral epiphysis is pursued.

Mechanism of injury of femoral shaft Fractures is discussed by talking about spiral fractures which can result from falling and diaphyseal fractures can be due to high-energy trauma which can result from road accidents. The Winquist’s classification classifies these fractures into 4 types based on the fracture comminution. What should be the emergency treatment of femoral shaft fractures is also discussed which include the use of analgesia, traction in splint and Blood volume is also restored.
Then definitive treatment of isolated femoral shaft Fracture is delineated. Some other techniques used for the treatment include MIPO technique i.e. the minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis technique, intramedullary nailing, and external fixation. Then light is shed on complex injuries which are combined neck and shaft fracture, as well as fractures associated with Knee Injuries.
Then explanation is given on pathological fractures including Paget’s disease where rapid replacement of old Bone tissue with new Bone tissue is seen which makes them fragile and risk of fracture increases. Furthermore, supracondylar Fractures of femur, occurring at the Knee Region, along with Hoffa fractures comes under consideration. The Complications of Fracture-separation of distal femoral epiphysis encompass vascular injury and physeal arrest.
