Side 1 of the album ‘(no pussyfooting)’ by Fripp and Eno released in October 1973 as Island Records (UK) HELP 16. The track was recorded in Brian Eno’s home studio in London in September 1972. Robert Fripp played guitar, and Eno sent the output of his amp through a long delay line involving two Revox open-reel tape recorders and a continuous tape loop. Fripp would use the same method for live improvisations under the name Frippertronics throughout the 1970s. Digital guitar effects pedals can now easily accomplish the same task, but in 1972 this was a groundbreaking use of available technology. Fripp’s skills as a guitarist and improviser are not so easy to reproduce.
