Retinal detachment classification is primarily discussed in this medical lecture. It has three main types viz primary retinal detachment along with the exudative and tractional retinal detachment. Each type has been comprehensively explicated in this medical lecture.
Primary retinal detachment is firstly discussed. It presents with various prodromal and detached retina symptoms. It presents with the signs of scleral indentation. Furthermore, the retinal breaks are elaborated. This includes discussion on horse-shoe tear, round retinal hole and anterior dialysis. Treatment options include scleral buckling, pars plana vitrectomy and endolaser photocoagulation.
Additionally, exudative (serous) retinal detachment has been brought under discussion. It can be treated via drainage of subretinal fluid (SRF) or scleral buckle vitrectomy. The other type of retinal detachment termed as tractional retinal detachment has been considered in detail. It can be treated with pars plana vitrectomy.
